Fashion retailers try to exhaust inventories before autumn season
The latest season's price cuts in apparel and footwear stores
have erased several hundred RON from the sums spent for a complete
dress-up, even one made up of established brands.
Even so, clients, ever fewer that in the economic boom years, are
not satisfied with price adjustments and particularly with the
offer and are putting their hopes in the further discounts that
will come on a declining market.
According to shopping centres, the number of visitors has not
fallen against last year, with traffic even rising in many cases as
"Romanians have given up holidays". Nevertheless, apparel and
footwear stores admit "most of them are just visitors, and sales
are still on a downward trend".
As a matter of fact, amid VAT hike and the 25% salary cuts for
public sector employees, the first to be erased from the shopping
list are clothes, footwear or home products, according to market
research firms' prognoses.
