The successful season of Italian football team Inter Milano, which culminated in winning the Champions League on Saturday night, will bring Romanian footballer Cristi Chivu a 600,000-euro bonus for the European cup, but also for the winning of Italy's cup and championship. The defender is the highest paid Romanian footballer, making 5 million euros per season at the Milan-based team, much more than Mirel Radoi (1.7 million euros at Al Hilal) and Adrian Mutu (1.2 million euros at Fiorentina). Chivu, the captain of the Romanian national team which failed to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa, is the first Romanian to win the most coveted European trophy after a 16-year hiatus. Those who won it before him were Miodrag Belodedici (1990-1991 season) and Florin Raducioiu (1993-1994 season). Chivu, who went to Inter for 16 million euros in 2007 is valued at 18 million euros by transfermarkt.de website. The winning of the Champions League will make Inter Milano 120 million euros richer, according to a Mastercard survey, while Bayern will get 70 million euros in its accounts. Champions League is the richest annual sports event.
