RCS&RDS, one of the biggest domestic telecom operators,
controlled by Zoltan Teszari, has expanded 3G Internet services to
the entire coverage area of its own mobile telephony network and
also raised the number of cities where it provides Internet
services at speeds of 7.2 Mbps to 24, according to the data the
company's representatives sent to ZF. "RCS&RDS expanded mobile
Internet to the areas where it already provided mobile telephony.
The coverage of Digi Net Mobil at speeds of 384 kbps is now that of
Digi Mobil, the company's mobile telephony services," Cristina
Nicoara, PR specialist with RCS&RDS, told ZF. Digi Mobil now
covers the top 200 cities of the country, in the order of their
size, and 4,000 km of national roads". RCS&RDS, Romania's
largest Internet provider through fixed lines, with more than one
million clients, in September 2009 launched mobile Internet
services, a market where the biggest players are Orange, Vodafone
and Zapp (acquired by Cosmote).
The Internet services market was in
2009 the only one to further witness an increase in revenues and
the number of customers.
