Premium brands stay in Top 5 of second-hand imports

Ziarul Financiar 15.06.2009
Imports of second-hand premium cars did not slow down in the first five months of this year, with the volume of registrations up by over 60% in May, when the overall rise of second-hand car imports amounted to 70%, according to statistics of the Driving Licences and Registrations Department. Unlike cars produced in large volumes, premium cars entail higher maintenance costs, and for older models, car parts cost more than for new ones. The best-selling brands in Germany, Volkswagen, Opel and Ford were the top three brands in terms of registrations, while the next two are BMW and Audi, with 1310 and 1,090 units respectively, up by almost 100% against the similar time last year. As for Mercedes-Benz, the best-selling premium brand in the first four months of the year, according to statistics of APIA (The Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association), it saw a less than 10% rise in second-hand imports.
