Kent producer sells 2.3m euros' worth of cigarettes per day in Q1

British American Tobacco (BAT), producer of Kent cigarettes, recorded sales worth 906.7 million RON (212.3 million euros) on the Romanian market in the first quarter of this year, up 20% against Q1 of 2008, i.e. an average of 2.3 million euros per day. "The 20% rise has to do with the price increase triggered by the rise in tobacco excises. For instance, in March, a pack of Kent cost 6.8 RON, compared with 5.7 RON in the same month of 2008," specified representatives of BAT Romania. The data point to stagnation in the volume of sales for the company that accounts for a market share estimated at 45% currently. Cigarettes are a market of 2.5 billion euros per year, the largest sector of the Romanian consumer goods industry.
