German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim posted sales worth 20.3 million euros on the Romanian market last year, up 5.3 million against 2007. The company reached a 1.13% market share, which secured it the No. 23 position on the ranking of major players in the Romanian market. "It is very difficult to make predictions as to the progression of the business, because of the uncertainties related to the economic context and to the prospective new regulations for prescription drugs. Nevertheless, we believe we will be able to increase our market share in 2009," said Franz Zinsberger, country head of the Bucharest branch of Boehringer Ingelheim. German-born Zinsberger, 51, took over Romanian operations in early June of last year, this being the first in a long series of changes affecting local pharmaceutical companies.
