Nestle Ice Cream looking for acquisitions

Ziarul Financiar 19.06.2007
Nestle Ice Cream Romania, the leader of the domestic ice cream market, is scrutinising the market for acquisition opportunities and already has its eye on two smaller competitors. "We are considering developing domestically by acquiring a smaller domestic producer, which would help us improve our nationwide distribution. We are currently examining two Romanian producers," Dimitris Zogopoulos, marketing manager of Nestle Ice Cream Romania, told ZF. He believes small ice cream producers on the local market could disappear if they do not invest in their businesses, amid increased competition. The Romanian ice cream market is presently divided between Nestle Ice Cream and Napolact (a company in the Friesland Foods group) and other smaller domestic companies that hold similar market shares, of 10 to 15%. The se include Betty Ice, Alpin, Top Gel and Kubo Ice (Amicii). Napolact, which produces the Napoca ice cream, currently holds a 10 to 15% market share.
