26.02.2008, 20:53 16

Greek-based Banca Romaneasca has increased the annual interest rate on deposits in RON to 9.1% for three-month deposits - a record high, according to financial data sent to ZF. At the end of last year two players - Banca Romaneasca and Italy's Intesa Sanpaolo, announced increases on interest rates for deposits in RON, (one of many increases implemented as early as the beginning of February) when the NBR operated a staggering 1% increase on the key RON interest rate, which it took to 9%. Most banks, from top-ranking players, such as the BCR or Raiffeisen, to the small ones, increased their interest rates for RON deposits. Some banks are already involved in their second or third modification in just a few months, while players on the overall market opted for a gradual approach. Banca Romaneasca significantly increased interest rates, with increases ranging from three quarters of a percentage point to 1.4%.
